The iFLOWS PROJECT Co-Organises the 2nd Detection Hub Workshop in Riga, Latvia

Clustering innovative scientific approaches to enhance the detection of drugs, explosives and illicit goods.

The 2nd Detection Hub Workshop took place in June 2025 in Riga, Latvia, bringing together EU-funded projects working to strengthen Europe’s capabilities in detecting drugs, explosives, and illicit goods.

As a proud co-organiser, iFLOWS contributed to a collaborative programme involving the PARSEC, MELCHIOR, BAG-INTEL, ODYSSEUS, UNDERSEC, EURMARS, COSMOPORT, SAUST, METEOR, NARCOSIS, SMAUG, FLEXI-CROSS, SILENT BORDER, and CEASEFIRE projects.

The workshop focused on bridging research innovation with operational needs through two thematic panel discussions:

  • Panel 1 – Smart Detection at Borders: Enhancing parcel and vessel screening capabilities across border environments.
  • Panel 2 – Border Security Innovation: Addressing technical challenges, obstacles, and integration issues faced by EU-funded detection projects.

The event concluded with a Detection Approaches Evaluation Session, emphasising future opportunities for joint testing, shared methodologies, and closer cross-project collaboration.

Overall, the workshop highlighted how cross-project cooperation helps accelerate progress, strengthen interoperability, and ensure that research outcomes can be applied in real operational environments.
